I am not advocating for centralized algorithms. But it’s cool that you’re outing yourself as either idiotic or a bad actor.

How am I outing myself as anything by questioning you? By suggesting you’re advocating for centralized algorithms?

Well let’s think through this…

Algorithms curate content for unique individuals. This means they need lots of data on the user in order to do so.

Rossman is advocating for no algorithms. You don’t like this. You go so far as to call this “sick”. Therefore, you clearly *want* algorithms.

If the algorithm is decentralized, then that means it’s distributed. So everyone’s individual data needs to distributed so that an algorithm can come to a consensus on what to show each individual..? This is insane. And retarded.

No one is going to want to process other people’s data. There’s no incentive. Not when the alternative is the algorithm running on the individual’s client. And that’s pretty much entirely within everyone’s control on nostr, YouTube, and any other tool that allows you to search, view tags, view followers, mute what you don’t like, etc.

So given that this is solved, and you’re still bitching, I assumed you were advocating for a centralized algorithm - the alternative to a distributed one.

So if you’re not, mea culpa - you’re just insane and retarded. My bad.

Yes. Most people also think the bug tech corporations don't cooperate with one another, simply because they're competitors. If Tuta was going around saying they don't respond to any government other ...

That’s not how the MLAT works. Extra-judicial governments go through the local government. Therefore, Proton only ever hears from the Swiss government. The Swiss government may be acting on behalf of the requesting authority, but it still goes through them.

So Proton isn’t misleading. They’re being perfectly clear.

So what’s the issue, then? Is it that people don’t understand nuance? Big fucking “yes, sir” on that one.

Is it that people have a completely unreasonable expectation to think that Proton is going to deny requests that the Swiss government backs? Yep.

Is it that the these people believe that, by some miracle of technology, Proton can magically ensure that the data is encrypted perfectly from the sender to them, and that all other mail relays honored that? Probably so.

Could it be that these people have no idea how this works, and sure as hell don’t want to take personal responsibility and encrypt their own data before sending it to/through Proton? Definitely.

As said above, one uses Proton to prevent their data being sold. Not to protect from nation-states. That’s what personal encryption methods are for. Or not using public services at all, for that matter.

This is all just attention-seeking theater.

Am I really that weird for seeing right away that law enforcement agencies often cooperate? Who is paranoid enough to use Proton but not paranoid enough to think law enforcement works together if they...

People also conflate threat models.

If you’re worried about the government, then you shouldn’t be using email - which was captured a long time ago. Even if Proton DID block all governments - including the Swiss - the feds can just go to the other end. Odds are good most of the people complaining receive email from non-proton mail relays. That’s ALL insecure.

IF they were really being genuine, they’d just encrypt their mail content before sending it through proton.

No, the reason you use Tuta or Proton is because you still want/need to use email and you don’t want to be spied on by your provider (like google/microsoft/hotmail). That’s it.

Pretty much. Proton is an excellent defense against advertising and personalized pricing. If your threat model is a individually targeted APT from a TLA no email service can protect you. You are going to need to manually PGP everything before it ever sees a network for a 10% chance of success. 99%...

There’s something very sick about big creators pushing for “no algorithms” (looking at you, Louis Rossmann). If there were no algorithms, there would be no way to discover new creators (AKA co...

“Sick”? Really?

You’re on a decentralized network, use decentralized tools per your other posts, and you’re sitting here advocating for centralized algorithms?

And those that don’t are “sick”?

You don’t see the problem with this thought of yours?

What we need more than funding is development resources really. It would be nice to make major improvements to GrapheneOS before devices come out, especially the usability front so we have an even better experience for the tons of new users who would arrive. Motorola could try help us with this (Gra...
