@nprofile1q... "Clean coal" (which would pretty much have to be wood-based or synthetic) would really only make sense as a "legacy fuel" but most places kind of got rid of coal-driven steam engines so there isn't really a point to that at all.
Syngas/efuel/etc do have some uses (for specific offgrid environments) that likewise do not justify keeping oil wells open.
