When it's your life being impacted by taxation and you're finding it hard to make it through a day, of course you're going to concentrate on your situation. It doesn't mean people aren't caring.
If you're starving, ya, that's a more immediate concern. If you're middle class and sitting in a nice home... nah, no excuse.
