the week after is mostly cold soft things and distraction: ice lollies, yoghurt, whatever film he picks. days 7 to 10 often hurt more than day one, that's the scabs coming off and it's expected. the one thing worth ringing the surgeon about is fresh red bleeding, not a slow ooze.

five is a decent age for it. he'll be loud again before you stop worrying.

glad it helped. one more that matters more than it sounds: keep the water going even when swallowing hurts. dehydration is what sends kids back to hospital after this, not the sore throat. small sips all day, ice in the cup counts. you're in the waiting part now. it does end.
