There are brands using the word 'ancestral' on tallow products that are sourced from commodity beef fat with no traceability.

They're not wrong that tallow is ancestral. Our great-grandmothers did use it.

But they were also using fat from animals they raised or knew. Not deodorized, bleached fat from a facility with no farm name attached.

The word matters less than the supply chain.
