“The European Squash Federation has become the first major sports federation in Europe to embrace cryptocurrency by adopting Bitcoin into its operations.
The ESF Board has made the ground-breaking decision as a strategic move to reflect its forward-thinking approach to financial management and digital innovation.
As part of this initiative, ESF will hold Bitcoin as an asset on its balance sheet, following the example of many leading global institutions.
Additionally, ESF will facilitate the use of Bitcoin for both incoming payments and outgoing transactions, wherever it is deemed appropriate.
ESF has enabled pure Bitcoin donations so that fans, companies and brands can support the federation’s work, including some special projects that will be announced in the coming months.
In addition, ESF will leverage its newly-launched media platform, European Squash TV, to enable fans to directly support players, clubs and national squash federations through donations. This will strengthen engagement with the squash community, empower grassroots development, foster talent and enhance the European squash ecosystem.
It is hoped the announcement will help the federation, and squash as a whole, attract sponsorships and partnerships from within the crypto industry. This will help to strengthen the sport as it prepares for its much-anticipated Olympic debut at the next Games in Los Angeles in 2028.
