I tend to lean toward the idea that Bitcoin was created by the NSA. I also don't think Satoshi's coins will remain dormant forever. However, you are right to say this doesn't compromise the open/verifiable nature of the network protocol. It is also very bullish whether you think this is a good thing or not.

The dark future I see is Bitcoin being used to recollateralize the financial system with CBDC's (like stable coins) put on top. So the base layer is free, but it will be made illegal to use the base layer.
