Yes this has been a problem since the first block. I think we've been assuming that the other people are just as willing to take responsibility as us. We assumed that they just needed better wallets, tools & training. It's not that these efforts are wasted, they do make the transition to Bitcoin more seamless & accessible. It's just that they don't want the responsibility, they'd rather trust someone else & blame them when it goes wrong.
I'm beginning to realise that we are the exception to the rule. Most people can't be their own leader, they need to look outside for one & will happily fall in line behind them.
I think my biggest lesson has been to not assume everyone has the same needs & desires as me. There's a small cohort of the population that do but it's certainly not the majority.
I think it has been this way with humans for a very long time. I also think something is waking up those that have the seed of freedom within. Something is germinating these seeds that have previously laid dormant under layers of supression.
