Never appreciated at the time the privilege of growing up next to this 13th century proof of work. Humans can achieve such greatness.

I love these grand old historic buildings too. But it’s important not to forget that many of them could only be built because those in power extracted wealth and labor from the rest of the population, often through coercion.
