This reminds me of once when a friend was searching for some program that did a small thing for his Windows computer, I think it was something about PDFs, but all he could find were two professional business-focused apps that costed a ton of money.

So I took the same query he was using on Google and appended it with "open-source" and instantly found a bunch of alternatives, all hosted on GitHub, semi-finished, but that did the job. They even shipped compiled binaries so it was just download and use.

He concluded that "open-source" was a secret magic word for getting free stuff on the internet.
