Seeing all the folks in Europe posting about "ZOMFG it's so hot!" makes me think that they're at the stage of air conditioning that the US was in 1980.

Any of us oldsters alive back then can remember the Mother of All Heat Waves and the death toll numbers getting higher each night on the evening news.

Air conditioning became near universal here after that.
