I bought a pack of Viarco pencils. They're the ones who made those unusual pencils. Viarco is a small pencil manufacturer from Portugal - the only pencil manufacturer in the country. Take a look at this video about the company:

In the video they say they have 25 employees, but I recently read on some forums that they're down to just 10 now. Still, they skillfully turn their disadvantages into advantages. They offer tours of their factory, and you can even stay there. Their old machinery allows them to produce small batches. This also lets them collaborate with artists and run experiments that even the Japanese manufacturers aren't always willing to try.
