The 144-confirmation rule exists because an exiting channel with too few confirmations lets the remaining party use child-pays-for-parent to pull funds back through a chain of unconfirmed transactions...
I guess there's some confusion here, as you mentioned "channel". The unilateral exit I initially referred to was in Arkade, not Lightning.
