My take is that he was trying to co-opt it which would be expected from those empowered by a system of theft.
His emails to Peter theil backs this claim ( if they are real - hard to tell these days) but he explicitly said that Bitcoin was a threat to USD and he wanted to fund eth and other shitcoins
