All of this FEMA talk in socials reminds me of when I tried to trespass FEMA from a whole city once.
Story time:
FEMA came to my local city, which I am a councilman for, with updated flood zones map...
Flood insurance is a federal program as no insurance company is willing to write policies for severe risk areas, or they take premiums and are unable to pay claims. Many/most insurance companies have left Florida for example. A locality’s role is in building code and mitigation programs. The government should have requirements for how federal mortgage dollars are protected. As you know this is a complex issue and complex program across the country. To say the government has no role would mean millions of people would have no insurance. I’m not saying it’s perfect but it is challenging.
