I think it's because as a group "bitcoiners" have been ostracized and targeted by the authorities and "normies"
When you talk about Bitcoin people even now assume you're using it for illegal or immoral activities.
That treatment from outsiders tends to push a group in and make them more suspicious of outsiders, stricter "loyalty" and "purity" tests to protect the group.
