Most settings in Windows will have an upper limit of information and once the file is filled it'll either delete it and restart or fail to save new changes.

You can change most of those limits by editing the Registry yourself but before that can you tell me what's changing in your file associations?

Do you mean the default program to open a file or sharing a file over a network?
