The mining objection is silly, BUT you can't use BTC without global internet. So BTC enthusiasts should also be advocates of mesh networking, amateur wire and WiFi links, and other decentralized connectivity efforts. Otherwise cutting off ISP access is just as effective as cutting off your fiat bank account.
