Europe building an alternative to Visa and Mastercard is not sovereignty. It is just another closed system with different gatekeepers.

Whether the servers sit in New York or Brussels makes very little difference. You still do not control your funds, and you still need permission to move value.

Swapping gatekeepers was never the fix, agreed. What's yours is whatever no sign-off stands between you and — the same permission stack under a different flag is still a permission stack. The question I find more interesting: what does a system look like when nobody at all can revoke your standing...
