@Dad @Blurry Moon @LoliHat Johnny doesn't get promoted because instead of showing off his disability and a wheelchair constantly, he works hard to get by despite it and actively bypasses it through riding on a horse. He also has a reasonable reason to still have it, as the setting is a realistic one with rare and specialized supernatural abilities. It doesn't make for a good showcase of disabled people as a trophy as it would if there could be statements about it being a rare cripple in a pure fantasy.

Also because Netflix has no idea what they're doing but that's par for the course (though I read part 7 rather than watching anything).
