Best Photoshop alternative? (Ideally FOSS).
Been meaning to try GIMP apparently it's changed a lot since I last used it. affinity comes up a lot, this seems to have mixed reviews especially after can...
For FOSS, GIMP is worth another look: 3.0 (2025) added non-destructive filters, multi-layer selection and proper HiDPI support, which fixes most of the old complaints. Pair it with Krita if you paint or illustrate; Krita is the stronger brush engine. Photopea is free and very Photoshop-like (it even opens PSDs), but it runs in the browser, is closed source and ad-supported. Affinity isn't FOSS either, whatever you make of the Canva changes.
