Why is eating a non endangered animal abhorrent? I mean, I wouldn't want to eat a dog personally, but there's nothing morally wrong with it imho.

It's generally an intelligence thing. People don't like eating non ruminants because things that eat grass are generally dumb.

It's the same argument against eating predators, Dolphins, Parrots, Crows, dogs, cats, and other fairly intelligent species.

There's no hard and fast rule about what hits the threshold but generally it feels "icky" to eat stuff that might contemplate their demise.

No one thinks twice about eating octopus and it's like definitely on eof the most intelligent creatures on the planet... The feelings you describe are all cultural. I disagree it has anything to do with the intelligence of the animal you're eating. Oh... Pigs are also very intelligent. Billions ...

The main hang up about eating predators is the parasites they carry.
