This reminds me of a book called Farmer Boy by Laura Engles Wilder. Easy read. It was my son's first chapter book. It's beautiful. It's a true story of the author's father's childhood in the late 1800s on a farm in rural Central New York. The family was always together, working together and enjoying their lives, with no artificial boundaries between those things. Highly recommend.
