Studies like Huang et al. (2018) looked at how light behaves in keratin structures (the protein that makes up hair).

What they found:

Hair fibers can scatter, absorb, and guide light along their shaft. This happens because hair has a cylindrical structure, somewhat similar in shape to a fiber optic cable.

I’m just wondering 🤔 about hair removal 👀…Not saying more… but it’s worth thinking about.
