This comes at just the right time: My daughter, who has just become an adult, is currently going through a difficult phase in her life, which she’s mentally processing by blaming her parents. It’s gotten to the point where - at my wife’s request - I’m supposed to sit down with my daughter to “listen to everything” and then "apologize for everything". Which I won’t do. Not because I’m too proud to do so. No, because I believe that would be the final nail in the coffin of my relationship with my daughter, and it would reinforce her mistaken belief that she is solely the product of her childhood experiences. Everyone is the architect of their own fortune. It’s entirely up to my daughter whether she plays the victim or overcomes obstacles. Now the only question is - how can we, as parents, slip this Cohen quote to her? (-:
