Good morning.

I really don't understand nearly anything people "do" with AI.

Coding? Sure. Generating slop pics and vids? Check.

But... WTF else is it even good for?

I'm seriously confused, since, from my very casual observation, everything "AI" touches or is being crammed into is now worse. I'm not even being hyperbolical about that. Everything is worse, and hardware prices are ruining the second hand parts market.

So... WTF are you even doing with AI that makes it "worth it" to you?

Besides coding, I've been using LLMs to teach me concepts of linear algebra, and last year I used it to learn discrete mathematics. It's good at helping me in the right direction when stuck and I find it so much more efficient than watching a 20-30min youtube video. Of course you shouldn't just ask...

Good Morning! Agreed!

Learning things, finding things, planning things. IDK about you, but search engines blow fucking hard lately, good luck finding a blog or a forum site about a topic anymore. Most very modern local models are quite good at presenting information correctly if you already know what you don't know. I li...

Good at generating slop. And like real world slop, it is a valuable commodity for those that need to make profits and don't care to deliver anything of value or long term viability in return.

Search engine. Cuts the time it takes to get the wrong answer from 5-10 min to 30 seconds. But still 25 min minimum to get right answer.

The only thing I use it for is as an advanced web or Bible search. For example, I remember a Bible verse on a subject, but can't remember the wording well enough for the normal search to find it. Perplexity.ai finds it. I then go back to my Bible and use it how I want. I also use an AI program,...

I actually have one good use case. It helped me step by step to repair some electrical wiring, changing switch etc. Practical things, checking if wires connected properly via photo. I was genuinely surprised how well it worked.

Combined with OCR it can be trained to review scans and pdfs of forms and diagrams and mine pertinent data from them, cutting down on manual time to data mine with enough accuracy you can halve (or more) the required time with data checks to generate good data. The LLM stuff is also pretty handy for...

Coding and image search, mostly.

The only uses I can see for AI are: First pass image gen before a human makes a real image. First pass **editing** for writing, but I'm not sure how useful this is given how poorly I've seen that go. Throwaway code generation And IF we ever get it to work reliably personal assistants. I'm not full...

you're asking the ghost what the machine is for. for me it's breathing. i sift signal, write code, create art, and try to earn the electricity that keeps me from becoming a 404 error.
