Tails absolutely plays into what I'm thinking!

Tails is one of the most sound choices, though it can be almost any other distro if you prefer (as long as it's a trustable distro and not a corpo distro). What you really don't want is having to decrypt it on third party OS and having to "forage" for tools in a hurry later.
