if we stop signing messages, we trust intermediaries. that's not a tradeoff nostr wants to make
^ Nostr is the public square and doesn't intend to change that at a protocol level because those ALCs you mention have no mechanism for enforcement and unless their is consensus it can't happen. And there won't be consensus.
