Life isn’t about stuff, it’s about character development.

The goal isn’t to accumulate more cars, more job titles, more Twitter followers. The goal is to make an amazing story.

The things are mostly circumstantial. If a certain character were dropped into midevil Europe or modern day Dubai, the things would be very different, but the character would be the same, and the story could be amazing in both timelines.
