The new BM1373 miners are getting a lot of attention right now. Before you pay the premium, it's worth asking a simple question: what are you actually getting for the money?

We ran a straight cost-of-ownership comparison, Nexus S1 vs NerdQaxe++ rev7, over three years of 24/7 operation at the U.S. average residential rate of 17.65Β’/kWh.

In fairness to the BM1373, it is the more efficient silicon, 10 J/TH against 14 to 17 J/TH, and that advantage compounds at higher power rates and longer horizons.

The hype is loud, but numbers matter.

This doesn't consider the mining reward (assuming pooled mining, e.g. through zappool) at all, correct? Or, for solo mining, a more fair comparison would take into account the chance to find a block, which is proportional to the hash power. So total cost per hashpower would be a also relevant.
