your last paragraph is how I also understood bitcoin-- the distributing of trust was such that there was no risk of us being able to collude to change it.
I like your framing of how "no counterparty...
With THIS rabid minority, I agree.
But if this one could pull the network with nearly no real mining support nor economic activity, why wouldn't the next small group with a charismatic leader not pull us in another stupid direction?
They PROBABLY wouldn't, but we don't say bitcoin is ∞/(probably 21,000,000). Take that certainty out of peoples' minds and markets tend to stumble.
