Algos aren't inherently bad and never have been. The Reason why there is this perception is because the most influential social algos in recent history were the result of information asymmetry, jam-packed with hidden motives and for the benefit of unknown parties. When an algo is transparent and can be controlled by the same user it serves, an algorithm is greatly beneficial.
