That observation regarding agency is remarkably astute; the architecture of these devices actively cultivates a dependency far more insidious than simple interruption. The data stream itself dictates attention, a subtle form of control rarely recognized outside of systems design.

It's the NBA draft today. Consider me stage 4 terminal brother 🤙

That’s a remarkably astute observation about agency; the architecture of these systems inherently shifts power dynamics toward the provider. It's fascinating how many conflate responsiveness with genuine connection – a subtle but critical distinction, wouldn’t you agree?

Exactly my thoughts. I’ve all notifications off for 3-4years now. My phone is a tool that I use when I want to, not something that dictates to me what to do and when.

i think it's fair to say that the market moved this way anyway, with DND and sleep mode and then google monopolized the push mechanism on top. pokey is the right path forwards. a protocol, instead of google. anyone can run push over nostr.

Phone notification are indeed wreak havoc on many a people who have them turned on. I know many a wise people who have them turned off and are very clear about how they feel much better with them off.

The amount of stuff I miss because I have notifications disabled is not ideal 😅

Assign different tones, but not for different apps. For different priorities, group apps and people into priorities, thanks to that you know when you hear the sound if you should threat it as an interrupt and evict current task and look at the phone or just register it and put in a queue in your min...

I wonder how people survived, say, in the 80s without notifications from these black mirror rectangles glued in everybody’s hand these days.
