As somebody that lives in a dense city, it feels nice being able to just walk or bike where I want without anybody's permission or tracking capabilities. It's a very free feeling.

Yeah it's not necessarily "on brand" for the Nostr crowd, but it's not obvious to me that the "go off grid and grow your own food" approach is the best way to preserve one's freedom....

Agriculture enforces being both bound to a particular plot of land, as well as engaging in a form of economic activity that is highly "legible" to the State. Urban living, by contrast, allows for both movement and economic activity that in many contexts is effectively untraceable.

Where I live in "dense American city", black and grey markets exist everywhere. Certain aspects of city life are fundamentally anarchic, in the sense that they can't be practically governed... For good or ill.
