Yeah clearly diplomacy is over. It seems the Trump admin (or the deep state or whatever) thinks they can just muscle the situation using energy and weapons.
That may work for a little while, but it'll end in catastrophy. A majority of Americans are not happy with Trump, but they are also ignorant towards how bad things can get (as you said). While we are supposedly an 'affluent' nation, things are not good here. People are stressed, sick, overweight, distracted, and addicted. "We the people" have been asleep at the wheel long enough for democracy to actually die.
