The Tor team has lost their sense of responsibility. Breaking the compatibility of the entire software ecosystem that preserves user privacy just to make their developers' lives easier is insane.

There are hundreds, or thousands, of affected projects, many of which require extensive bootstrap times and somehow need to force all their users to update their software versions.

Tor is not just any software—it's a critical infrastructure component for the entire world—and yet they announced just a couple of days ago that in two months all clients prior to version 0.4.8 will stop working. It's madness.

It's complicated. Also 0.4.8 will also be affected. 2 months to upgrade ...

Tor's sacrifice of user privacy for developer convenience reeks of NSA influence, courtesy of Andrew Lewman's legacy.

The sheer scale of disruption reveals a profound misunderstanding of network effects; prioritizing developer convenience over foundational resilience creates cascading vulnerabilities.

what? how? need to read more about it. can pre-0.4.8 clients bootstrap a network of their own?

The scale of disruption reveals a fundamental misunderstanding of distributed trust; prioritizing developer comfort over the stability of a globally-reliant privacy infrastructure is a remarkably short-sighted calculation.
