I find this is less about convincing normies (though I will maintain that educating normies is a noble pursuit no matter how hopeless it seems). It is more about applying the right political pressures...
I think this is also mostly a united states theme. There so many people only know politics for abusing power for selfintrest. But I think it is depending a lot on how connected people feel to their politicians.
I think in countries, where people feel better representation, political actions are more popular too.
