@nprofile1q... at my $DAYJOB (which had been remote from way before covid times) the usual practice is to enter calls with video on, greet each other, and then turn the video off “to save bandwidth” and start on the actual topic of the call.

Sometimes if the call is with people who already had a call with recently we just skip the video.
