So, they’re not able to conceptualize different parts and the interaction with others?
They don’t even know enough to realize that there are differences. To them, SQL is SQL, and relational databases just implement SQL. And that’s it. So it doesn’t matter, probably, except for highly specific scenarios.
They see the lower level stuff as a place for specialized optimization. They don’t see it as a foundation.
I see the same thing in all disciplines. The old ways are just that - old - and maybe are important on the edge. Otherwise, it’s not needed to learn the history of your craft.
Meanwhile I find I’m drifting further and further back in time in terms of seeking out new knowledge. And that’s because I see a lot of the conveniences of today becoming a hindrance for tomorrow in a world where money has value and so quality is king.
