The problem I see with that is that it's frequent for fedi to improperly federate edits or deletions.

I found that out as I do tend to use edits to improve subpar phrasing of my posts sometimes and semi-frequently get replies that visibly did not see my edits (and checking from their instance shows the edits never propagated).
