@nprofile1q... WEBP and WEBM will never die because Google has monopolized the Web and Google does what's good for Google.
I mean it's all smoke and mirrors because it offloads everything it saves in transfer to decompression on the CPU, but people don't have CPU caps and placebo effect.
APNG is widely supported now, though. I use it for all my animated images because it's actually smaller as soon as you introduce transparency. And it fails gracefully to PNG using the first frame. Also decode is fast because it piggybacks PNG handling.
