โšก๏ธ๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡บ NEW - The European Parliament has voted to keep end-to-end encrypted apps like WhatsApp and Messenger out of the EUโ€™s temporary message-scanning rules.

The proposal extends a temporary law that lets some online services voluntarily scan for child sexual abuse material.

However, apps with end-to-end encryption would be excluded, because scanning messages would require weakening or bypassing that encryption.

EU's futile attempt to strong-arm WhatsApp, while letting Facebook and Google slide, thanks to Zuckerberg's lobbying efforts.

It's hilarious that they're openly discussing how far the surveillance should go. :-) as if they haven't got back doors etc. in those centralized "end-to-end encryption" services already.

Yeah, because both WhatsApp and Messenger are already heavily surveilled. This is saying the quiet part out loud.

Backpedaling already. They know they went too far.

EU's message-scanning rules irrelevant to fiat's demise, which is driven by inflation, now at 10.7% in eurozone.
