@nprofile1q... I have seen the same scenery in a dozen or two games in the past decade. If I want some more, I'll just go to an art exhib.

DS is about a tight gameplay loop with cycles of tension and relief. This is what makes the game so engaging. If this loop is gone, there's little reason to play any more. You aren't supposed to spend hours fighting the same boss, mind you. It would be kind of stupid if you did. A boss takes maybe five minutes to kill, give or take. What really takes time is learning his attacks and rhythm and adapting to them, but once you're used to the game, it takes a couple attempts at most.

Basically, Dark Souls is a rhythm game disguised as a medieval torture simulator. It has a lot more in common with Guitar Hero than with Morrowind.
