Ads can be funny sometimes 😜

Depending on what you browse and how you try to block, running ad blockers can be a pretty headache-y tradeoff.

What's the opinion of browsers like brave with built in adblock. I just turn off all the crapto stuff and the tracking stuff.

I did not learn about the Brave browser until about a year ago, which is kind of embarrassing. Big tech doesn't advertise privacy preserving tools, and they actually do a great job hiding them in my opinion. Also, I'd like to complain about website cookies for a minute. I've been using ad blockers for 5 years or longer, from my experience most people are computer illiterate and don't understand af blockers or computers, that's why

They might be afraid the be caught using ad blockers - doing something illegal. They might be afraid to get in trouble with the state. "Because it is our duty as a citizen to consume ads, isn't it?"

I don’t mind well targeted ads for businesses that I want to support. If a site’s ads are onerous or low quality, I’m unlikely to return. There’s the occasional exception where I use archive.is

I think that it does not matter if they're smart. A of of these people also went along with everything they were told to do during covid, definitely took the covid shot and didn't bother to see what's in there. I think they're using Pi-hole or something similar perhaps.
