Silence Retreats

I'm very curious about these as I'm curious what a week of not being able to talk will be like. I'm told that there are some that are Christian based, with monks that guide your silence. I don't want to do any that are not Christian, because I take my faith very seriously.

Anyone try these? Would you recommend them?

Meditation and sensory deprivation float tanks are another way to micro-dose the overall experience. The idea is to turn your brain off from circulating thought patterns and rumination, like power cycling a computer

I’ve done a few Vipassanas in the SN Goenka tradition … highly recommend as the meditation practice you come away with is life changing https://mahavana.dhamma.org/vipassana/

Why? Are non Christian faiths inferior or evil? Take a hike! Your mind has been colonized by the white man and culture erased. Asian culture is inferior? Evil? Cultural appropriation and theft. GTFO. When they brainwash you their heroes become yours and your heroes are painted as useless. Their n...

What does shutting up for a week have to do with religion?

Why would it matter if it was Christian or not?

A little differently here…..I take 7-10 day solo trips deep into the backcountry. Sets the circadian rhythm with the benefits of silence.

Great to hear you take your faith so seriously. It’s an encouragement to hear that. I had a buddy do a vow of silence in college (Christian college) and it was really eye opening for him about knowing himself better. Excited to hear how it goes for you!

If you look into the esoteric aspects of christianity it shares alot of things teached in buddhism. You should be fine with a universal one, not necesarry influenced by either religion I'd say. And let the antichrists here shout into the void, ignore them

I think a week of not talking can put some strain on human sanity. For most people, a few days should be good. https://danlawton.substack.com/p/when-buddhism-goes-bad?utm_source=pocket_mylist

Yes, but never that long. In college it was 3-4 hours as part of Intervarsity. Definitely a good experience and would recommend working up to a day.

I’ve done a 10 day Vipassana silent retreat guided by a monk. Ancient Indian, rediscovered by Buddha. Beautiful location up in the hills away from the city. Highly recommend. Experiencing both the discomfort and comfort in silence is special.
