I've been fucked over by insurance many times. Only once did it actually work in my favor. Literally every other time I've filed a "claim" they've told me to screw off and then usually cancel my policy.
I worked for one of the largest insurance companies in the world for about 4 years. They constantly talked about how amazing they were for "keeping their promises" to customers, but had a reputation for being completely ruthless with claims, especially in natural disasters. Meanwhile, they were sitting on BILLIONS in investments. I remember one year, their investment profits were more than all of their premiums collected.
It's absolutely a scam.
