I don't really do podcasts, all of the content Im "subbed" to is some form of video only entertainment.

This has worked and I try to do this regularly. It's also difficult because I'm giving them little or nothing in return by consuming their content alone. That and my private email servers end up in spam if they ever make it to others inboxes.
Some have even replied with something along the lines of "I would be interested if it was a one click or automatic thing I didn't have to do myself, it's hard uploading to multiple accounts and keeping track of publications for so little in return".
