Meditation should not generally feel like it’s benefiting you in a near term sense (especially at first, similar to physical exercise when you’re out of shape).. and if you’re looking for some benefit, you won’t last long enough for it to start making a difference, or at best you won’t be focused in your practice. Any benefit you do feel is essentially a side effect, a nice distraction. The real benefit happens beneath the surface of your conscious, striving mind.
Full Catastrophe Living is a good book (or audiobook) tutorial to start with, though I’d recommend being willing to commit to 8 weeks of daily practice to actually explore what he describes. For context this is a good interview of the author:
