I admire that you’re even considering taking on the Linux challenge, with being a new dad. Congratulations for that by the way.

I can’t push you towards Linux in good faith without knowing a lot more. It has required dedicated attention for a while, and I don’t even use my computer for much. When something breaks it can be really frustrating.

Also, as with any potentially addictive substance I want to caution you about going with Apple. It’s really warm and cozy over there, and it’s difficult to tell just how dependent one has become until they try to quit.

Thinkpads have a solid reputation. I don’t have much of an opinion about most brands otherwise.
