Did you catch the latest market signal? According to EPFR Global analysts led by Winston Chua, traders are quietly walking away from technology stocks. The long-to-short ratio in Nasdaq-100 futures collapsed to its lowest level in 17 years on July 14, down 63% from a year earlier.

The interesting part is that earnings estimates for many technology companies continue to rise, yet their share prices are no longer keeping pace. Investors now expect exceptional results before they are willing to bid these stocks higher, which means expectations have become detached from what companies can realistically deliver. When the market keeps raising the bar while price momentum fades, it is often an early sign that positioning is changing long before the headlines admit it.
